Recently, while working on #StoryX, I came across Vercel (a tool used for web applications). Besides their font Geist (my fav' right now ❤️), I've discovered their pricing model, and it made me wonder if it was the best pricing model companies can offer to users?
I'm amazed how it's well-tailored for every specific type of user they could have:
→ Hobby for web builders (free-forever plan)
→ Pro for teams
→ Enterprise for companies
Such a pricing model isn't new; it has been often used recently by Notion, Figma (who are updating their pricing model right now btw haha) and many other SaaS (software as a service) companies.
The great thing about this model is that it lets users "try" the tool with basic features for free for the time they need. Once they get used to it and once more features are needed, they might surely decide to subscribe.
While I understand that companies need to cover costs, I believe we should fight for more free-forever basic plans in SaaS. Builders should have sufficient tools to use for free at the start, and time-limited free trials (often 14 days or a month) are usually too short to develop a habit of using a tool (which scientifically takes 90 days in average).
But since I believe in the multitude of opinions, I'll leave you with another perspective on Vercel haha
Take care :)
